Trio of Bulldogs Take Third at SoCon Championships

BOONE, N.C. – The Citadel's Ben Haubert, Mark Chaid and John Chesser each wrestled their way to third place finishes at the 2023 Southern Conference Championships on Saturday inside the Holmes Convocation Center.

In addition, Blair Orr and Jacob Silka each finished in fourth place.

How it Happened

Jacob Silka picked up the first win of the day for the Bulldogs at 141 pounds with a 5-4 decision over the No. 4 seed.
After falling to the No. 1 seed in the semifinals, Silka came back to pick up his second win of the day over the No. 6 seed from VMI.
Ben Haubert had another strong showing at the conference championships as he finished third for the second-straight year
Haubert opened the day with a thrilling takedown for the 3-1 win in sudden victory.
Haubert would fall in the semifinals, but rebounded with a pair of victories over the No. 4 and No. 7 seeds.
Mark Chaid sufferd an opening round loss at 197 pounds, but rebounded with a 6-4 upset over the No. 4 seed.
Chaid would move into the third place match via a forfeit, before taking home third place due to a second-straight forfeit.
John Chesser started his day at 285 pounds with a 6-0 victory over the No. 7 seed.
In a tough match in the semifinals, Chesser suffer a 4-2 setback.
Chesser rebounded with a decision victory, then closed out the day with a convincing 12-0 major decision victory in the third-place match.
Blair Orr dropped his first match of the day, but rebounded with a second-period fall in his next match, and a 5-2 upset over the No. 3 seed.
