Women's Golf Cruises to Match Play Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The Citadel women's golf team cruised to a 5-0 match play win over Montreat College (N.C) on Friday at Patriots Point Links as none of the matches had to continue past the 15th hole.

How It Happened
  • Naomi Huang won the first four holes to rush out to a 4-0 lead. The sophomore extended the lead to 6 UP after 11 but Coyle battled back to take the next two holes.
  • After tying the 14th and 15th holes, Huang won the 16th to take the match 5 and 3.
  • Ikeda took holes 2 and 3 to open an early 2-0 advantage. After halving the next two holes, Coltrane won the 7th to cut the margin to one, 2-1.T he senior won the 9th to regain her 2 UP margin at the turn.
  • The pairing would halve the first two holes on the back nine before Ikeda took the 12th and 14th holes, stretching her lead to 4 UP and placing Coltrane in dormie. Ikeda halved the 15th to win her match 4 and 3 as she lost only one hole all match.
  • Parmer raced out to a 3 UP lead through four holes, before taking the 8th to hold a commanding 4-0 advantage at the turn. The sophomore didn't allow Yeomans to get back in the match as she won the first three holes on the back to end the match 7 and 6.
  • Alexander lost the third hole to trail 1 DN but quickly responded by winning holes four and five to take the match lead, 1 UP. The freshmen won the par 3 7th to double the margin before the pair split holes eight and nine.
  • Alexander took the par 4 11th to push the margin to 3 UP but Stewart halved the next two to hold out hope. Playing in her first collegiate match, Alexander remained poised as she responded by winning the next two holes to close out the match 5 and 4.
  • Senior Paige Gilstrap had the biggest win of the match as she cruised to a 10-9 victory.
The Bulldogs head to Georgia on Monday for the two-day Coastal Georgia Women's Fall Invitational.
