CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Fueled by a trio of key major decisions from
Jeff Boyd (149 lbs),
Ben Haubert (165 lbs) and
Patrick Brophy (197 lbs), The Citadel (10-3, 2-1 SoCon) managed to score a victory over long-time Southern Conference adversary Chattanooga (8-3, 2-1 SoCon) for the first time in two decades, toppling the Mocs behind a come-from-behind 21-15 mark Thursday evening at Maclellan Gym.
Prior to the match, the Bulldogs most recent previous win over UTC came on Feb. 14, 2004, as The Citadel compiled a 27-13 victory before eventually earning a SoCon Championship later that same season. Notably, the Mocs battled till the final bout with the two squads separated by just three points entered the heavyweight clash; senior
Ben Stemmet played the hero once again for the Bulldogs, holding firm till overtime at 1-1 before clinching a Citadel win via a takedown for the 4-1 decision.
