CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Despite consistently tight bouts throughout, The Citadel (3-2, 0-1 SoCon) struggled to gain a foothold in the program's Southern Conference opener against defending league champion Appalachian State (2-2, 2-0 SoCon), falling to the Mountaineers in a 31-3 affair Sunday afternoon at McAlister Field House.
