The Citadel "Opts-In" to NCAA House Settlement

11/13/2025 10:00:00 AM

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Citadel has announced it intends to opt-in to the NCAA House settlement for 2026-27.

The Citadel President Gen. Glenn Walters, USMC (Ret.), '79, announced the Board of Visitors' decision Thursday, Nov. 13, after months of analysis and evaluation.

"Today, The Citadel doubled down on its commitment to field competitive athletic teams in an ever-shifting athletics environment," said Walters. "Through the commitment of our donors, we will continue to take steps to compete for championships for years to come."

The House settlement provides a model for universities to distribute new benefits directly to student-athletes, including athletics-generated revenues. At The Citadel, this represents an opportunity to enhance both the student-athlete experience and competitiveness.

"This decision signals the strong alignment among The Citadel's stakeholders required to navigate the ever-changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics," said The Citadel Athletic Director Art Chase. "We are greatly appreciative of the Board of Visitors, Gen. Walters and both internal and external colleagues who were instrumental during this assessment process. Opting in emphasizes the institution's commitment to compete at the NCAA Division I level as a proud member of the Southern Conference."
