CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling program officially released the upcoming 2026-27 schedule Thursday morning, slating the season opener for Sunday, Nov. 7 at the third-annual Throwdown on the Yorktown with Southern Conference competition getting underway on Friday, Jan. 8 and the SoCon Championship set for early March.
"We're excited about a schedule that will challenge us from start to finish," head coach Tim McCall said. "We want to compete with the best, and this schedule reflects that commitment. Our guys will have opportunities to test themselves, grow, and show what The Citadel Wrestling is capable of. We're embracing the challenge and ready to get to work."
Following back-to-back duals against Air Force and Purdue on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown CV-10 to open the 2026-27 campaign in early November, the Bulldogs ignite their home schedule with B1G visitor Illinois swinging by McAlister Field House on Saturday, Nov. 14. Less than a week later, The Citadel travels to Blacksburg, Va., for an ACC clash at Virginia Tech, squaring off against the Hokies on Thursday, Nov. 19.
The non-conference schedule continues with the Michigan State Tri-Meet on Saturday, Dec. 12 with battles against both the host Spartans as well as fellow visitor Rider before making the annual trek to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Southern Scuffle individual tournament, taking on an elite field of competition across a two-day span on Saturday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 3.
The Citadel embarks on Southern Conference play with back-to-back duals on Friday, Jan. 8 and Sunday, Jan. 10 versus Gardner-Webb and Appalachian State, respectively, before closing out league competition at rival VMI on Friday, Feb. 19. Additionally, the Bulldogs continue to test the non-conference waters during the new year with matchups against Utah Valley and North Dakota State at the Davidson Duals on Saturday, Jan. 16 while also trekking north to battle national power Army on Sunday, Feb. 7.
Finally, The Citadel concludes the season at the Southern Conference Championship, a two-day individual competition slated for Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C. The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships are set for Thursday, March 18 through Saturday, March 20 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo.
