The Citadel Football Travels to No. 10 Elon

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Football will travel to No. 10 Elon for their first Southern Conference road game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Rhodes Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:35 p.m. and the game can be listened to on Bulldog Insider at www.CitadelSports.com or on ESPN Radio 910 The Team with the Voice of the Bulldogs Darren Goldwater and color analyst Walt Nadzak.

Saturday's game will be just the ninth meeting between the two teams in the programs' history which dates back to 1954 when the Bulldogs and Phoenix competed against each other for two consecutive years. The series did not resume until Oct. 4, 2003, the year Elon joined the SoCon. The Bulldogs lead the series, 6-2; however, the Phoenix claimed the most recent victory, 27-23, on Oct. 11, 2008 in Charleston at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The win marked their first win over the Bulldogs since joining the SoCon. The teams have met twice in Elon, with the schools splitting the games, 1-1.

Having a late start against Southern Conference opponents and losing to one of the top teams in the SoCon in the conference opener last week still leaves the Bulldogs searching for that first conference victory. The Citadel is the only team in the conference who has only played one SoCon opponent this season. However, having a 2-2 overall record puts them in seventh place ahead of Wofford (1-4; 0-2 SoCon) and Western Carolina (0-5; 0-3 SoCon), who are eighth and ninth in conference standings.

The Citadel Head Coach Kevin Higgins will be reunited again with Pete Lembo, one of his former Lehigh assistants, who is now the head coach at Elon. Lembo served an assistant coach for Higgins' last three seasons (1998-2000) with the Mountain Hawks and took over as the head coach for the next five seasons when Higgins left Lehigh to accept a coaching position with the NFL's Detroit Lions. The two will reunite for the fourth time as Higgins continues his fifth season with the Bulldogs and Lembo in his fourth with the Phoenix. Higgins leads the series against Lembo, 2-1.

A game recap and statistics will be available online immediately following the game. For more information on Bulldog Football, go to the official website of The Citadel Athletics, www.CitadelSports.com.
