Blanchard Named SoCon Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel redshirt junior quarterback Bart Blanchard was named Southern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.

Blanchard had a record-setting performance against Presbyterian on Saturday as he became just the fifth quarterback in league history to throw for six touchdowns passes in a game. The junior from Rock Hill, S.C., went 20-for-30 for 263 yards with six scores to lead the Bulldogs to the 46-21 victory. Four of Blanchard's touchdowns went to All-America wide receiver Andre Roberts and the other two to tight end Alex Sellars.

Blanchard shared the honor with Elon's Scott Riddle, who in a 28-14 win over Georgia Southern passed for 338 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on a 19-yard touchdown run. The junior, in just his 26th collegiate game, became the SoCon's all-time leader in both passing yards (7,893) and pass completions (705). The Ramseur, N.C., native also set a SoCon record by extending his streak of passes without an interception to 218 before throwing a late interception.

The Citadel has had two players of the week this season. Redshirt freshman defensive back Joseph Boateng earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for his impressive collegiate debut at No. 21 North Carolina.

The Citadel (2-1 overall, 0-0 SoCon) will return to Johnson Hagood Stadium to open their Southern Conference schedule with Appalachian State on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. For more information on Bulldog Football, visit the official website of The Citadel Athletics at www.CitadelSports.com.
