Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel golf team prepares for competition at the Low Country Intercollegiate with first round tee time on Saturday, March 13 at 10 am in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Co-hosted by Southern Conference members Western Carolina and Wofford, the two-day event will be played on the South Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club.
The Bulldogs look to improve from last year's event where they finished in 10th place out of 12 teams competing. Co-hosts Catamounts and Terriers claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Western Carolina's Blaire Minter edged Wofford's Alex Ranking by five strokes to win the individual title. Sarah Herbert also from Wofford came in third place while The Citadel's Alanna-Jean Keith and Western Carolina's Desiree Karlsson fired a total 157 tying for fourth place with three other competitors to round out the top five. The tournament marked a 2009 best performance for Keith as she shot a season-low 77 in the first round in route to her top-five finish.
The last time The Citadel was in action, Keith led the Bulldogs at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. Finishing in 32nd place, The Citadel was also represented by Bree Baumgartner, Christine Clark, Sheri Rockefeller, and Kate Hardina in the three-day event. The University of Miami clinched the tournament victory, while East Tennessee State's Nina Muehl and Oral Roberts' Crystal Reeves shared the individual title.
