Biography

Thomas Cummings enters his third year as a graduate assistant coach in 2008-09 working with the Bulldog hurdlers. Cummings joined the coaching staff after spending four years as a cadet-student-athlete at The Citadel, lettering in track and field.

In 2008, Cummings guided Brown to his 400m hurdles title and a bid for the NCAA Regional. Cummings also led Justin Webb, Dan Sagmiller and Lauren Fleming to school record breaking performances and top ten finishes at the SoCon Outdoor Championships. Cummings also led hurdler Sanders to her school record breaking performance at the SoCon Indoor Championships.

In 2007, Cummings guided the hurdlers to four All-Southern Conference honors and seven SoCon Finalist honors, including Tasha Sanders’ SoCon Championship in the heptathlon. Cummings also helped coach Jamel Brown to a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles and a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles. The hurdlers shined in the 2007 SoCon Outdoor Championships, bringing home one conference title, three All-SoCon honors and six SoCon Finalist accolades.

As a Bulldog, Cummings was a four-time All-Southern Conference hurdler and the Walhalla, S.C. native was a seven-time SoCon finalist. A three-time state collegiate champion, Cummings was the track and field team’s Co-MVP and Co-Outstanding Track Competitor in 2005.

Cummings also serves as The Citadel’s Facilities Assistant, helping Assistant AD Mike Groshon keep impeccable playing and practice surfaces for the Bulldog Athletics Department. Cummings is currently in The Citadel Graduate College working towards his masters in business. He resides in Charleston.
