CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel soccer team has signed 14 members to its 2017 squad, second-year head coach
Ciaran Traquair announced Wednesday.
"This is our first real chance to grow our squad and get the right balance of depth and quality," Coach Traquair said. "We have worked very hard as a staff to find the best possible players who are a fit for this institution and who can make us better as a program. I think there is a lot of potential is this group and they will help us lay a strong foundation for years to come. There is now genuine competition across the board and it should make everyone better. We are very ambitious and this group will enable us to start setting new goals for the program and reaching new levels of achievement."

- Four-year soccer letterwinner and three-year basketball letter winner
- Played in two South Jersey Group III state championships and one state final Â
- Two-time basketball defensive player of the year, leading the team with most rebounds in both years
Coach Traquair on Adcock: "Jenna will be a great addition to the program with the talent and work ethic she brings. She is very comfortable on the ball, partnered with great athleticism and composure on the ball, allows her to play anywhere in the back line. Her versatility will be a great asset to the team and gives us some more options moving forward."

- Was a four-year varsity starter while at Woodland and served as team captain during junior and senior seasons
- Scored nine goals and was named CIF All-Conference freshman and sophomore years
- A part of the National Premier League Champions team from 2014-2016
- Member of the Davis Legacy Soccer Club team that was nationally ranked No. 1 from 2014-2016
- Ranked No. 1 in graduating class
Coach Traquair on Burgess: "Elena is one of two Californians joining us this coming fall. I have a lot of faith in her ability and she will give us some added bite and pace going forward. I expect that she will continue her goal-scoring habits at the college level and we are delighted to have her on board. She fits everything we look for in a cadet--athlete."
- As a sophomore, compiled 19-0-1 record and ranked No. 1 nationally by NSCAA
- Finished her junior campaign with 14-2-1 record
- Helped Montverde to a district championship during her senior season, posting a 21-2-0 record
- Played for nationally ranked Unifut in Guatemala in 2014, helping the team earn a No. 1 ranking
Coach Traquair on Contreras: "Maria commits to us from Guatemala via Monteverde Academy in Florida. She is a natural midfield technician and is very good on the ball. Maria is currently playing at a very good level down in Florida and she will bring that experience and knowledge to The Citadel as well as background of soccer from Guatemala, which will be something unique to the program."

- Played four years of soccer and one year of lacrosse
- Named GCL first team junior and senior years and first team all Miami valley following junior season
- Recorded eight goals and seven assists during high school career
- Father, Nathan Dix, played soccer at Missouri State and Wright State
Coach Traquair on Dix: "Logan is an exceptional student and she has great potential in the game. I think she will give us some much needed pace in behind. She is an intelligent attacking player who has an eye for goal and can create problems in wide areas. I am hopeful her athleticism and versatility will allow us to adjust our shape when it is required."

- Earned the Spartan award for soccer following junior season
- Member of honor roll 9th, 10th and 11th grade
- Brother, Alex Iezzi, played five years of football at Simon Fraser University
Coach Traquair on Iezzi: "Leanna is our lone commit from Canada and she adds some solidarity to our defensive unit. She is predominantly a center back but can play anywhere in the back four and also in central midfield. Leanna is very athletic and has loads of potential to become a very influential member of this program as we build towards success."

Goalkeeper | Island Trees High School | Levittown, New York
- Member of the soccer and basketball teams at Island Trees HS
- Finished high school career with 294 saves
- Earned all-county award and Howard Gould Award as most valuable goalkeeper of Nassau County following senior season
- Club soccer team, Brentwood Fredom '98 FC, won the New York East State Championship 2013-2015
- Sister, Olivia Johnston, played three years of soccer at Caldwell University
Coach Traquair on Johnston: "Kaeley is our second goalkeeper of the recruiting class. She has a solid club background and we expect her to be in a position to compete for the No. 1 spot. She brings a calmness and presence that will help in the transition to D1 soccer. She will benefit hugely from constant training and attention with our assistant coach, and I am expecting her to grow into a competitive Division I keeper."

- Scored 17 goals and notched 11 assists during freshman campaign
- Earned player of the year award following sophomore season, recording 13 goals and three assists
- Helped her squad finish the district slate undefeated and earned the team's coaches award
- Set a new school record in the sprint medley relay for track during the 2015-16 season
Coach Traquair on Mack: "Hope was our first commit of the 2017 class. She is a tough kid with a good engine to get up and down the park. She will offer us some depth at full back and will give us some added quality going forward. Hope handles herself well physically and has great service into the box. She will be a great addition to our squad."

- Named the team MVP following her freshman season when she served as captain and helped Newbury Park to a first place finish in league play
- Earned the Panther award and Scholar Athlete Award for the second consecutive year as a sophomore as the team finished second in the league
- Helped her squad win their league and advance to the CIF quarterfinals as a junior
- Aunt, Frances Mazza, played field hockey and lacrosse at Ball State for two years while uncle, Jack Mazza, played soccer for one year at Syracuse
Coach Traquair on Manzione: "Kate is the second signing from our California duo and a great athlete that will influence our team from day one. I expect her to help us compete physically in the conference and allow us to set the tone in games. She is an intelligent kid with a real passion for the game. She is another player who fits exactly what we are looking for on and off the field."

- Competed on the soccer, track and field and handball teams during her time at Bexleyheath
- Earned 18 trophies in seven years as soccer captain
- Holds the school record in the 100m, 4x100m relay and long jump
- Won a gold medal in handball at London Youth Games
Coach Traquair on Mansfield: "We were able to pick up Megan very close to signing day. I think she will bring a lot of maturity and experience to our program. Megan has the ability to play centrally, or as a full back and will be someone I think will impact our team very quickly. Her technical skills are very good, reads the game well and makes good choices in and out of possession. I am excited to see her have an influence on the team and adapt to our style of play."

- Â Played four years of varsity soccer, serving as a captain during her sophomore and junior seasons
- As a sophomore, was named to the 2015 Viking Cup all-tournament team, AAAA all-region team and earned defensive MVP honors, recording 151 saves and posting four shutouts
- Posted a 9-9 record and averaged just two goals a game during her junior campaign, earning AAAA all-region honors for the second consecutive year
- Made the 2014 SCUFC German exchange team and started all three games while overseas, earning three shutouts in the contests
Coach Traquair on Marshall: "We are excited to have Bri join our group next year. She brings the whole package and has a tremendous work ethic. We feel she is going to develop into a very strong goalkeeper over her time here at The Citadel. I like her competitiveness and it will be exciting to see her battle it out for the number one spot come this fall."

- Lettered four times in soccer and two times in volleyball
- Selected to the all-region team following her junior season
- Earned the Team 21 award after sophomore campaign
- Served as the Beta Club secretary and earned high honors all four years at Stratford
Coach Traquair on Montalvo-Perez: "We are excited that Monica has chosen to come on board at The Citadel. She adds a level of athleticism that will improve our team right away. She comes from a good soccer background and has all the tools to be a success on our campus. I think she will develop into a very strong player for us over her four years. Monica has a great personality and someone who will add character to our locker room."

- Four-year soccer letterwinnner for Springboro, finishing her career with 32 goals and 40 assists
- Earned offensive player of the year, second team All-Miami Valley and all-conference second team following sophomore season after posting 10 goals and 18 assists
- Named offensive player of the year, first team All-Miami Valley, All GWOC, all-conference first team following senior campaign after tallying 14 goals and 17 assists
- Member of 2015 district champion team and 2016 Ohio Division I state finalist team
Coach Traquair on Phelps: "Jaiden is an excellent addition to a growing squad. She is a technically sound soccer player and I believe she will fit our style of play very well. She will bring something different to our program and plays very well under pressure. We look forward to her becoming an influential member of our team and offering a level of versatility that we have lacked in the past."

- Completed undergraduate degree at Lynn University
- Played soccer, rugby and field hockey in high school
- Member of the Leeds United Ladies FC soccer team in 2013
Coach Traquair on Robert: "Georgia has already made a big impact on our squad since arriving in January. She has the quality and experience to really thrive at the Division I level. She has a professional drive and desire to be at the top of the game and that will certainly benefit us over the next 12 months. I'm very eager to get going with her this spring and see her develop into a very influential player for the fall."

Forward | Jenks High School | Tulsa, Oklahoma
- Named to the all-state honorable mention team for three consecutive years and earned all-state second team honors as a senior
- Helped Newsome High School to regional semifinals in 2014 and regional finals in 2015
- Member of Jenks High School team to advance to state finals in 2015 and state quarterfinals in 2016
- Distinguished graduate from Jenks
Coach Traquair on Roth: "Hannah is a great fit for our program and she is works at a high level every day. I think she can play in several positions and will chip in with goals and assists as a freshman. She is confident and has been playing at the highest level for several years. Hannah will be a solid addition to the team and will compete for minutes right away."

The large singing class will look to build on Coach Traquair's impressive first season at The Citadel. The 2016 squad was the first in program history to open a season with three straight shutouts and tied the program's single-season record with five shutouts. The Bulldogs also posted the best start in school history and Coach Traquair's five wins are the most in Citadel soccer history by a first-year head coach.
