Began his football career as a walk-on and was awarded a full scholarship after his freshman year … was the 1972 team captain who was also voted the team’s most valuable player … for 24 years, he held the school record for the longest run from scrimmage (95 yards) … accumulated six games in which he rushed for more than 100 yards … his personal high was 205 yards that came in a 52-35 home win over Chattanooga … The Associated Press recognized Carson as a second-team All-Southern Conference performer and as an honorable mention All-American … the S.C. Coaches Association pointed to Carson as the runner-up for the Jacobs Blocking Award.
