Citadel head basketball coach Pat Dennis announced Tuesday afternoon that assistant coach Chris Gerlufsen had been elevated to full-time status, while Earl Grant Jr. was named the third assistant on the Bulldogs' staff.
"Chris did an outstanding job for us last year and is an extremely hard worker," Dennis stated. "There was no question in my mind when the job opened that he was the guy for the job."
Gerlufsen, a 1998 graduate of Randolph-Macon served as the #3 assistant coach for only one year before replacing Mike Hopkins who took a job at Big East member Virginia Tech. Before joining The Citadel, the Philadelphia native served as an assistant coach at Southwestern (TX) University.
"We are excited to have Earl join our staff," Dennis added. "He is a solid young coach with local roots. His playing and coaching experience will be a great addition to our staff."
Grant, a graduate of R.B. Stall High School in North Charleston earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Georgia State University. During his playing days, he attended Spartanburg-Methodist for two years before transferring to Georgia State. While at Georgia State he was a member of the 1999 and 2000 Peach Belt Championship teams. During his senior season he helped lead the Panthers to an NCAA Elite Eight finish.
