Spartanburg, S.C. The Citadel placed five football players on the 2007 Coaches All-Southern Conference Teams, announced Monday afternoon by the Southern Conference office. Four Bulldogs were named to the First Team by the league's coaches, tying the most ever named to the coaches All-Conference First Team in school history.
Offensive lineman Chris McDowell, defensive lineman Trevar Broughton, linebacker Andrew Rowell and defensive back Joshua Lawson all garnered first team honors with Rowell and Lawson finishing third and fourth, respectively, in the league in tackles. Meanwhile Broughton finished the year second in sacks and third in tackles for a loss.
Punter Mark Kaspar was the lone Bulldog named to the coaches second team after finishing the year ranked second in the Southern Conference in punting with an average of 40.9 yards per punt.
Only twice before has The Citadel placed as many as four on the coaches first team slate, equaling the quartet of Alvin Brown, Carlos Frank, Adrian Luster and Kevin Smith in 1997 and the Smith, Torrencey Forney, Carey Cash and current Citadel running backs coach Everette Sands in 1992.
