Charlotte, N.C. The Citadel Basketball's Cameron Wells was named to the Southern Conference 2008-09 Preseason All-Conference team, announced Thursday at the SoCon Basketball Tip-off held in Charlotte, N.C. Bulldog Head Coach Ed Conroy and senior center Demetrius Nelson represented The Citadel in the media day event.
Southern Conference basketball head coaches selected Wells, the 2007-08 SoCon Freshman of the Year, as one of 10 players named to the preseason team, while picking the Bulldogs to finish sixth in the South Division. The media agreed with the coaches in the Bulldogs' ranking and selected Chattanooga and Davidson to win the North and South division titles, respectively. Davidson's junior guard Stephen Curry was selected as the preseason Player of the Year.
The 2008-09 Bulldog roster returns 11 letterwinners and all five starters from last season's squad. The Citadel will also see a return of Nelson and sophomore forward Bryan Streeter, both who redshirted last season. Seniors Nelson and guard Jonathan Brick are expected to lead the young group in the upcoming season.
The Citadel will host its annual Meet the Bulldogs on Thursday, Nov. 6 at McAlister Field House. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with refreshments and an autograph session, followed by team introductions, giveaways and the Blue and White scrimmage at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs will host an exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 9 against Georgia Southwestern at 7:05 p.m. before opening their regular season against Grace Bible on homecoming Friday, Nov. 14 at 6:05 p.m. Fans who show their homecoming football tickets will gain free admission to the game.
