The Citadel Set to Compete in the 2010 SoCon Cross Country Championships

Charleston, S.C. - The Bulldog Cross Country team will travel to the mountains of Boone, N.C. to compete in the Southern Conference 2010 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30, hosted by Appalachian State. Held at State Farm Field, the race will begin with the women's 5k at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 10:45 a.m.

As the top men's and women's team, the winner will be crowned the 2010 Conference Champions and the top seven runners from each race will be awarded First Team All-Conference honors. Individuals who earn an eighth through 14th place finish will be tabbed to the Second Team All-Conference.

Last Year at SoCon
Last season at the 2009 SoCon Championships, The Citadel men finished in ninth place. Tallying 281 points, former Bulldog Brendan Kight led The Citadel with a 37th-place finish posting a time of 26:49. Sophomore Kyle Keene, who finished seconds later, came in with a time of 26:51 for 39th place in last year's race and looks to lead the Bulldogs as he has done in each race during the 2010 season.

Former Cadet Katheryn Gatewood paced the women in last season's race as she recorded a time of 20:11 for 60th place on the 5k course. Hoping to improve from its 12th-place finish from the 2009 Championship, the women's squad has been led by newcomer Danielle McKee, who has made an immediate impact on the Bulldogs in 2010 by also leading the team at every event.

A recap and results will be available following Friday's race. For more information on The Citadel Cross Country, visit the official website of The Citadel Athletics at www.CitadelSports.com.
