Charleston, S.C. – Erica Pellegrini, who carded an 80, led five members of The Citadel Golf team that wrapped up Monday's opening round of Wendy's Invitational with a combined team score of 331.
Pellegrini (+9) is locked in a five-way tie for 44th, alongside fellow SoCon competitor Lauren Dunbar (Wofford College) at the Coosaw Creek Country Club. Bulldog teammates Bree Baumgartner and Alanna-Jean Keith, who each shot 83 (+12) on the first day of action, placed themselves in a tie for 56th. The freshmen duo of Kellie Anderson (85; +14) and TaKima Butler (87; +16) rounded out the remaining Citadel scores.
Marshall (299), out of Conference USA, holds a two-stroke edge over UAB at the close of round one. The Thundering Herd's Allison Harper is tied alongside Rumbidzai Masamvu (Appalachian State) in the individual competition, with each firing an opening round 70 (-1). Jacksonville University's Natalie Schmett is currently in third, one shot back following an even par 71, on a very crowded leaderboard.
