Sam Frye, Mitchell Jeter Named to All-SoCon Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Sam Frye was named to the All-Southern Conference first team, Mitchell Jeter was selected to the second team and Cam Jackson, Isiaha Smith and Dee Delaney were tabbed to the all-freshman squad in voting by the league's head coaches and media.

Frye was the veteran leader of an offensive line that paved the way for a powerful Bulldog rushing attack that ranks second in the nation at the conclusion of the regular season. The junior guard from Charlotte, N.C., played all 907 offensive snaps in 2014 and has started all 24 games the past two seasons.

With Frye anchoring the line, The Citadel finished the season with 4,166 yards on the ground and its average of 347.2 is the second highest in school history. The Bulldogs also rank in the top 10 nationally in four other categories, including second in sacks allowed (six), seventh in time of possession (32:32), ninth in red zone offense (89.8 percent) and 10th in third down conversions (47.8).

Jeter, a junior defensive tackle from Rock Hill, S.C., tied for the team lead and tied for eighth in the SoCon with 10.5 tackles for loss and was second on the Bulldogs and fourth in the league with six sacks.

He was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after the Wofford game when he registered 12 tackles, including two for a loss, forced a fumble and recovered two others. Jeter has played in all 35 games in his three-year career and has a total of 99 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks, the latter category ranking in a tie for 14th in school history.

Jackson, a slot back from Mobile, Ala., was enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign before it was cut short by a broken hand against Mercer. That game marked his seventh start of the year, and he had gained a season-high 142 yards on only eight carries before the injury.

Overall, Jackson carried 57 times for 505 yards, averaging 8.9 per attempt, and scored three touchdowns. He had 116 rushing yards and 241 all-purpose yards against Charlotte when he was selected the national co-freshman of the week by The Sports Network.

Smith, a B-back from Hagerstown, Md., played in 11 games and started the final five, rushing for 591 yards and five touchdowns. He posted a season-high 134 yards in the season finale against VMI, had 111 against Western Carolina and scored a pair of touchdowns against Mercer.

Delaney, a cornerback from Seabrook, S.C., played in all 12 games and started 11. He ranked seventh on the Bulldogs with 51 tackles while adding three tackles for loss, two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Delaney was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after helping preserve The Citadel's 28-26 win over Mercer. He ended a Bears' scoring threat with a third quarter interception and then broke up the potential game-tying two-point conversion pass with 3:37 remaining in the game.
