Matt Frisch earned five victories at this weekend's Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas as he brought home sixth place in the 149-pound bracket for the Bulldogs.
Joining Frisch with multiple wins at the event were
Joaquin Marquez (125) and
Marshall Haas (197), who emerged with two victories each. Collectively they keyed a Citadel unit that posted a 21st place finish.Â
Frisch, who squared off against Hofstra's Cody Ruggirello in the fifth-place bracket, was toppled by fall at the 43 second mark.
In the opening round of the bracket Frisch earned a 6-4 victory over Clayton Ream (North Dakota State).
He then captured a 9-1 victory over Chris Yankowich (Virginia) to set up a match with Tyler Booth (North Idaho College). In that match Frisch picked up an 11-2 victory and by virtue of the win earned a fourth round meeting with Ruggirello.
After dropping a 6-5 decision to Ruggirello, Frisch moved into the wrestlebacks where he came away with a 2-1 win over Gerald McGinty (Air Force) and a 6-2 victory against Abraham Rodriguez (Oregon State). This set up a showdown with Iowa State's Gabe Moreno, who completed a 14-3 triumph over Frisch, who then went head-to-head against Ruggirello for the second time in the session.
The Citadel returns to action on Dec. 20 when the Bulldogs host a dual match with Southern Conference rival Campbell at McAlister Field House.
