Charleston, S.C. - Jamaal Brantley has earned Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Month on the strength of several impressive performances throughout February.
The Citadel senior and Summerville, S.C., native closed out his indoor season with two conference championships and was named the most outstanding track performer of the event.
Brantley's two first place finishes in the 60 and 200 moved him to the top of The Citadel all-time record book. His 60 time of 6.82 puts him in first place in program history while he broke his own career-best time in the 200 with a mark of 21.97 to move up to second.
Brantley was named SoCon Athlete of the Week on Feb. 26 after recording a personal-best time of 6.44 to win the 55 at the USC Gamecock Open.
On Feb. 7, Brantley posted his then-career-best time of 22.03 in the 200 at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
"Jamaal has worked very hard this year and, following his indoor performance and the SoCon Championships, he very much deserved to be named athlete of the month," said head coach Jody Huddleston. "We are looking forward to the outdoor season and seeing what he can do his senior year."
Brantley and the entire Bulldog team head to Myrtle Beach, S.C., this weekend for the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
