Spartanburg, S.C. - Eddie Jones was named Southern Conference Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking long jump last weekend at the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. 

Jones, a native of Summerville, S.C., broke a 52-year-old Citadel record, the oldest indoor or outdoor record in program history, when he leaped 24'4.25". 

Head Coach Jody Huddleston is proud of Eddie's success this season.

"Eddie has worked very hard this year and has really improved his technique," said Huddleston. "He had a good series at the Florida Relays and it carried over to Tennessee where he had an even better series and was able to get Bill Elliott's record set in 1962."

This mark earned him a second place finish amongst collegiate competitors at the Tennessee Relays and moved him to the top spot in the SoCon this season. 

The Bulldogs are back in action on April 19 for the University of South Carolina Invitational.
