COLUMBIA, S.C. -Â Freshman Michael Lantz and his older brother, senior Raeven, finished at the front of the pack Saturday morning at the Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
Michael clocked in at 15:54 in the 5k race to take second place in his first collegiate meet as a Citadel Bulldog while Raeven finished right behind him in third, crossing the finish line in 16:05.
Also finishing among the top five for The Citadel were Ross Jordan (7th, 16:34), Darrell Hayden (12th, 17:23) and William Sloane (19th, 18:01). The men's team finished second overall, falling behind Tennessee Tech by 12 points.
Jackie Thompson led the women's team, clocking in at just over the 20-minute mark at 20:22 in the 5k to place 16th. Callian Colquitt finished 20th with a mark of 20:57 while Nicole Ogilbee placed 30th with a time of 21:33. Rounding out the top-five runners for the Bulldogs were Jess DeWitte (31st, 21:39) and Emily Fields (32nd, 21:46).
On Friday, The Citadel freshmen squads opened their collegiate careers at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, S.C.
James Cunningham ran an impressive time of 17:03 in the 5k to finish 14th while Edwin Davis placed 18th with a time of 17:12 to lead the Bulldogs.
James Howlin and Charles Braddock placed 26th and 27th, respectively, with times of 18:16 and 18:24 while Andrew Irrea (29th) and Jonathan Clymer (30th) crossed the finish line in 19:33 and 19:30. James Bath took 31st with a mark of 20:25.
The women's team was led by Grace Jenkins who clocked in at 22:04 to place 29th. Karen Grier followed Jenkins with a time of 23:08 to finish 36th.
Rounding out the women's side were Paige Herbst (37t, 23:28), Elizabeth Webster (39th, 24:29) and Cynthia Martinez (41st, 27:41).
The entire Bulldog team will return to action Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
