SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Citadel's Jackie Thompson was named Southern Conference Indoor Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Thursday. 

Thompson, a Marietta, Ga., native broke The Citadel 5k women's record with a time of 18:19.84 to earn second place at the East Tennessee State University Invitational last weekend in Johnson City, Tenn. 

Her time beat the previous Citadel record by 16 seconds and ranks seventh in the SoCon rankings this season. 

Thompson and the rest of the Bulldogs are back in action Thursday at the High Point Team Challenge at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
