CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle teams finished fourth and sixth Saturday at the first Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season in Lexington, Virginia.

The Bulldog men's shooters posted a total score of 4,878, with 2,240 coming in air rifle and 2,138 in small bore to place fourth. The women's team placed sixth with an overall score of 4,286 compiled of 2,196 in air rifle and 2,090 in small bore.

"We all feel a sense of loss in not bringing the flag home," head coach William Smith said. "We are looking forward to some quality practice time this week and our next chance to take the flag from VMI in November."

Sophomore Morgan Long was the Bulldogs' highest finisher, placing seventh in air bore with his score of 573. Fellow sophomore Colton Poole led the Bulldogs in small bore, finishing 17th overall with his score of 541.

Senior team captain Amber Mills led the women's shooters by posting a 562 score for 16th overall in air rifle. Fallon Weaver and Jennifer Burch had scores of 546 and 543, respectively.

Long and senior Charles Yeh Jr., placed 21st and 22nd, respectively, in small bore with scores of 537 and 536. Haley Osmer was 25th in small bore, and Poole took 25th in air rifle. Yeh and Richie Parra notched scores of 556 and 553, respectively, in air rifle.

The Bulldogs return to action Oct. 3 when they travel to Milledgeville, Georgia, for SEARC 2 hosted by Georgia Military College.
