NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - The Citadel track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Captain's Invitational on Saturday. The Bulldogs placed fourth overall with 166.50 team points behind Hampton (297), William and Mary (255.50) and Norfolk State (200).
The men's and women's distance runners highlighted The Citadel's final day of the Captain's Invite. Senior
Caillian Colquitt had a busy afternoon, competing in the 1-mile and 800-meter events. She shattered her personal best in the mile by clocking a 5:37.12, shaving more than 10 seconds off her PR. Colquitt followed that up by placing sixth in the 800-meter run with a 2:41.32.
In men's distance events, sophomore
Michael Lantz and junior
Ross Jordan led the way by finishing second and third in the 1000-meter competition, respectively. Lantz' time of 2:35.98 ranks ninth all-time in The Citadel indoor history. Additionally, sophomore
Jamie Cunningham put together a solid Saturday. Cunningham placed third in the 1-mile event by clocking a 4:29.21 and scored points in the 800-meter run with a 2:05.30.
Both the men's and women's squads had strong days in the long jump competition. Sophomore
Devin Singleton placed second on the men's side with a jump of 6.75 meters and sophomore
Asyria Daniels finished sixth with a leap of 5.02 meters.
