SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel co-ed rifle team finished second in the sixth Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season Saturday at Wofford.
"We shot OK but not good enough to win," head coach
William Smith said. "There were a few times we made mistakes with the paper targets that cost us some points."
Wofford won the event with an aggregate score of 4,430. The Bulldogs' co-ed team totaled 4,299 for second place and was followed by Georgia Military College's 4,147 points and Clemson's 3,967 points. The Citadel women's team competed only in air rifle and earned 2,068 points.
Sophomore
Colton Poole led the Bulldogs in air rifle with his third-place finish after posting a score of 563 points and placed eighth in small bore with a score of 519. Senior
Michael Chen took sixth place and tied his season-high score of 556 in air rifle and claimed 10th in small bore with a score of 513. Classmate
Charles Yeh Jr.'s score of 529 in small bore placed sixth, and his 555 in air rifle placed eighth.
Freshman
Tommy Simrill led The Citadel and finished fifth in small bore with his score of 530, and he took 10th in air rifle with a score of 549. Junior
Richie Parra and freshman
Hunter Ferguson scored 535 and 534, respectively, in air rifle. In small bore, Parra scored 498 and Ferguson posted a score of 477.
The Citadel women's team was led by freshman
Allison Auten, who finished ninth with her score of 550 points. Senior team captain
Amber Mills' total of 532 was good for 19th place. Freshman
Brandi Duzz scored 512 points, and fellow freshman
Shay Littlejohn recorded a score of 474.
The Bulldogs continue SEARC competition next weekend, traveling to North Georgia for the seventh SEARC match of the year Saturday.
