Bulldogs Fall To TCU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team was defeated by TCU on Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
"We shot a little bit better than we did last week against VMI," head coach William Smith said. "TCU came in here and put up a fantastic score."
Both the mixed and women's teams scored higher than last week's season-opening match at VMI. The Bulldogs' co-ed team scored 4,469 and the women's team totaled 4,177. TCU won the match with 4,718 points.
Junior Colton Poole led the Bulldogs in both competitions with 11th-places finishes in both air rifle and smallbore. The Pelion, South Carolina, native scored a season-high 574 in air rifle and a season-best 554 in smallbore. He was followed by freshman Alexander McAlear who took 12th on both disciplines. McAlear scored a season-best 569 in air rifle and a season-high 553 in smallbore.
Sophomore Allison Auten and senior Richie Parra claimed 13th and 14th, respectively, in air rifle with season-best scores of 568 and 567. The duo flipped their position in smallbore, with Parra shooting 543 and Auten scoring 541. Matthew Davenport and Hunter Ferguson made their season debuts. Davenport finished 17th in smallbore with 536 points and 18th in air rifle with 557 points, while Ferguson scored 560 in smallbore for 17th place and 532 in air rifle for 19th.
The women's team was led by sophomores Brandi Duzz and Leah Wallace. Duzz scored a team-best 514 in smallbore, while Wallace registered a team-high 553 in air rifle. Carli Cline and Faith Totherow each scored season-high totals in air rifle. Junior Raven Wills scored 522 in her first air rifle competition of the season, and freshman Tierra Price made her collegiate debut with 500 points in air rifle.
The Citadel will take a week off before starting a stretch of five straight match weekends to conclude the fall portion of the schedule. The Bulldogs are back in action Oct. 15 when they host Georgia Southern and UAB.
