CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team hits the road for its second away match of the season this weekend.
"Practices this week are back on track after the break for Hurricane Matthew" head coach William Smith said. "Several shooters have fired personal-best scores and I am optimistic for this weekend's match."
Saturday's contest features Southern Conference foe and 20th-ranked North Georgia as well as Clemson, Georgia Military College and Georgia Southern. The Citadel hosted Georgia Southern last week and the two teams were separated by only 12 points in the overall cumulative score with the Bulldogs' co-ed team registering a season-best 4,479 points.
Sophomore Allison Auten led The Citadel in last week's competition. She tied for the best overall smallbore score and placed fourth in air rifle by recording season-best marks in both disciplines. She will be joined on the co-ed squad by senior Richie Parra, who registered a season-high score in air rifle against Georgia Southern, freshman Alexander McAlear, juniors Morgan Long, Matthew Davenport and Colton Poole and senior Patrick Meyer. Meyer is returning to action after sitting out last weekend's match.
The women's team is led by sophomore Brandi Duzz, who posted a season-best smallbore score and finished ninth last week. Fellow sophomore Leah Wallace led the women's team in air rifle against Georgia Southern. Classmate Shay Littlejohn hits the road with the Bulldogs for the first time after making her season debut last weekend. Junior Carli Cline, who did not compete last weekend, and freshman Faith Totherow round out the travel squad.
Saturday's match takes place at the Col. Raymond C. Hamilton Rifle Range inside the Pennington Military Leadership Center located adjacent to the Dahlonega, Georgia, campus main entrance.
