CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team hosts SoCon foe Wofford on Saturday inside the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
"Wofford is a chance for us to compete against a Southern Conference team," head coach William Smith said. "At the same time, we will still be looking to improve our overall NCAA ranking. Homecoming will give the team a chance to meet with past team members and alumni, as we plan to have several of The Citadel's national championship-winning team attending the match Saturday."
Both Bulldog teams recorded season-high team scores last weekend at home against two top-15 opponents. The Citadel co-ed team scored 4,493 and The Citadel women's team scored 4,231.
Allison Auten leads the team in air rifle with a season-best score of 581 recorded in the last competition, and Morgan Long boasts a 580 registered two weeks ago at North Georgia. Alexander McAlear, Colton Poole, Richie Parra and Matthew Davenport all have season-high scores between 575 and 570. Leah Wallace's season-best 563 was recorded at North Georgia.
Poole has the team's best smallbore score this season courtesy of a 567-point performance last weekend. Auten is right behind with a 562, and Long has a season-best score of 556 from the season opener at VMI. McAlear and Parra have season-best scores of 553 and 552, respectively, and Faith Totherow, who has increased her season-high score in each of the last two matches, is next on the list at 547.
The Bulldogs had two other season-best scores last weekend with Brandi Duzz recording a season-high 558 in air rifle and Tierra Price scoring a season-high 460 in smallbore. Price made her collegiate debut earlier this season at home and registered a season-best 500 in air rifle against TCU.
Saturday's competition begins at 10 a.m. Admission to the Inouye Marksmanship Center is free, and live results will be available at CitadelSports.com.
