DAHLONEGA, Ga.  – The Citadel co-ed rifle team finished third in the seventh Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season this weekend at North Georgia.
"We performed well in cold conditions," head coach
William Smith said. "Now we return home to prepare for the NCAA qualifier in a couple of weeks."
Host North Georgia claimed the team competition with 4,482 points and was followed by Wofford with 4,451 and the Bulldogs' season-high 4,432. Georgia Southern took fourth with 4,387 points, The Citadel women's team scored 4,345 for fifth and Georgia Military College was sixth with 4,268.
Sophomore
Morgan Long led the Bulldogs on both guns, finishing in a tie for third in small bore with 549 points and seventh in air rifle with 572. Classmate
Colton Poole tied with Long in small bore and tied his season-high score of 570 in air rifle to place 11th overall. Senior
Michael Chen also matched his season-best score in air rifle, posting a 564 to tie for 15th place. Fellow senior
Charles Yeh Jr. tied for ninth overall in small bore with his score of 540 and took 19th in air rifle with a score of 558. Freshman
Tommy Simrill scored 554 in air rifle and 530 in small bore.
Freshman
Allison Auten led the women's team with her fifth-place finish and score of 547 points in small bore and took 21st in air rifle with 558 points. Senior
Jennifer Burch scored 561 in air rifle for 17th place and 527 in small bore to tie for 20th. Classmate
Fallon Weaver posted season-high marks on both guns, scoring 549 in air rifle and taking 12th place in small bore with a score of 539. Senior
Haley Osmer scored 543 in air rifle and 521 in small bore.
The Citadel rifle team has next weekend off before hosting SEARC 8, which also serves as the NCAA Qualifier, Feb. 20-21 inside the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
