CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle teams earned three season-best scores Saturday at the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference Championships.
The SEARC Championship match featured only air rifle competition among the seven competing teams. North Carolina State won the event with a score of 2,340 points. North Georgia was second with 2,306, and Georgia Southern's 2,285 points placed third. The Citadel's co-ed team scored 2,278 for fourth place and the women's team had 2,232 points for sixth. Wofford's 2,259 points were fifth, and UAB placed seventh with 2,187 points.
Junior
Richie Parra and sophomore
Morgan Long led the Bulldogs with 571 points, a total that was a season-high score for Parra and the 13th-best individual score of the day. Sophomore
Matthew Davenport registered a season-high score of 570 to finish 18th. Classmate
Colton Poole scored 566 points, while freshmen
Hunter Ferguson and
Tommy Simrill posted scores of 558 and 557. Sophomore
Christian Romero also scored 557. Senior
Michael Chen scored 548, and junior
Patrick Meyer posted a score of 540.
Freshman
Leah Wallace led The Citadel women's team by scoring 567 points and finishing 24th overall. Senior team captain
Amber Mills scored 556, and fellow senior
Fallon Weaver posted a season-high 555 points. Freshman
Allison Auten also scored 555, and senior
Jennifer Burch scored 554. Freshmen
Shay Littlejohn and
Brandi Duzz scored 509 and 503 points.
Saturday's match was the final SEARC event for The Citadel, which will compete in the Southern Conference next season as the conference home for the Bulldogs' other teams is adding rifle as a championship sport for the 2016-17 season.
