CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Charleston area for the first time this season at the second annual Lowcountry Collegiate Track and Field Invitational. The Bulldogs wrapped up events Saturday at the Peyton Johnson Moore Track and Field Complex in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Sophomore
Mady Riegel highlighted the day for the women's squad by winning the javelin competition. She tossed a season-best throw of 122 feet and 11.5 inches to take first. Riegel set the program record last season in the javelin event.

Sophomore
Asyria Daniels had another strong outing by collecting a pair of top-ten finishes. She placed fourth overall in the long jump, reaching 17 feet and 11.75 inches. Daniels later took sixth in the triple jump by leaping 35 feet and 8.5 inches.

Senior
Jessica DeWitte led the Bulldogs in running events with two top-ten performances. DeWitte secured a personal record in the 1500-meter competition, clocking a 4:53.50 and placing fourth overall. She also took seventh in the 3000-meter event with a personal-record 10:58.43. Elsewhere, junior
Sarah Johnson ran a personal record 22.23 in the 200-meter dash and clocked a 10.97 in the 100-meter sprint to take fifth place.

The men's team put together a strong all-round performance on Saturday. Sophomore
Devin Singleton placed fifth overall in the long jump, reaching 22 feet and .25 inches. He also posted a personal-record 49.11 in the 400-meter dash. Fellow sprinter Josiah Johnson placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a 10.97 and finished 12th in the 200-meter event with a personal-record 22.81.

In field events,
Mitchell Noel and
Derrick Freeland shined for the Bulldogs. Noel won the high jump competition, clearing 6 feet and 2.25 inches while Freeland took home two second-place finishes. Freeland totaled 46 feet and 11.25 inches in the shot put and 164 and 10 inches in the hammer throw to finish second in both events.

Other notable performances included an event-win for junior
Matthew Gill in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a 9:51.00 and two top-five finishes for sophomore
Jamie Cunningham. Cunningham placed second in the 3000-meter event with a time of 9:24.34 and fourth in the 1500-meter event with a personal-record time of 4:07.20.
