Â
"This year's recruiting class looks to be very strong and should be able to make an immediate impact," head coach
Jody Huddleston said. "The coaching staff worked very hard and I think their efforts have paid off as both the men's and women's squads have added talent and depth with this year's class. Each one of these young men and women will be able to bring something to the table. We are very excited and looking forward to the coming season."

Katherine Alton | Jumps | Dublin High School | Dublin, Georgia
Â
Katherine Alton spent four years excelling in the high jump at Dublin High School. Alton is a four-time Lauren County champion and three-time regional champion in that event. She also captured a sectional high jump title as a junior and finished third in that meet as a sophomore.
Â
Alton's personal record leap is currently 5 feet, 2 inches. Her best career-finish at the Georgia state meet was sixth place last season.
Â
Dana Duggan | Middle Distance | Seaford High School | Seaford, New York
Â
Dana Duggan will run both cross country and track at The Citadel next year, adding depth to the XC squad and the Bulldogs' group of middle distance runners. Duggan lettered in four sports during high school, including track, lacrosse, basketball and football and received scholar athlete recognition for her efforts in the classroom.
Â
Duggan recently finished fourth overall at her conference meet in the 1500-meter run. She plans to concentrate on the 800-meter and 1500-meter events at The Citadel following the cross country season.
Â
Kaeleigh Guth | Jumps | Warren Hills High School | Stewartsville, New Jersey
Â
Kaeleigh Guth was a multi-sport star in high school, receiving all-state recognition in soccer and all-conference honors in both basketball and track and field. She will play soccer for the Bulldogs next fall before joining the track and field squad in the spring of 2017. Guth set the school record at Warren Hills in the 400-meter dash as a freshman with a time of 1:06.8 and was named First Team All-Conference and Team MVP.
Â
While Guth found success in sprints, she excelled in jumps and will add depth to The Citadel women's strong crop of jumpers. She cleared 5 feet, 2 inches multiple times in the high jump in high school and recorded a career-best leap of 35 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump as a junior. Guth also jumped 18 feet, 2 inches in the long jump during her junior campaign. If she repeats that performance as a Bulldog, it would make history at The Citadel.
Â
Daniela Sanchez-Martinez | Distance | Black River Public School | Holland, Michigan
Â
Sanchez-Martinez provides The Citadel with another talented distance runner as she plans to compete for both the cross country and track and field teams. A native of Mexico City, she was a three-time Michigan state championships qualifier in cross country at Black River High School, capping the streak off with a 45th-place finish at the state meet as a senior.
Â
Sanchez-Martinez' assistant coach at Black River was Michael Sharnas, a 1992 graduate of The Citadel. Under his guidance, Sanchez-Martinez posted a personal-best time of 20:08.6 in the 5K. She also competed for the indoor and outdoor track and field teams in high school, clocking an 11:59.45 in the 3,200-meter event and a 5:42.19 in the 1600-meter run.
Â
Jordan Neeley | Sprints | Gravette High School | Gravette, Arkansas
Â
Jordan Neeley helped Bentonville High School clinch a 7A Arkansas State Championship as a sophomore. She eventually transferred to Gravette High School and earned the team's Most Outstanding Newcomer Award after a solid junior season.
Â
Neeley specializes in sprints and can prove vital to the women's relay squads next spring. She owns personal best times of 13.04 in the 100-meter, 27.10 in the 200-meter and 1:01.63 in the 400-meter dash.
Â
Jessy Page | Throws | South Lake High School | Clermont, Florida
Â
Jessy Page is a decorated thrower who was a four-year letterwinner in both track and field and weightlifting. Page was a state champion in the discus competition in New Jersey as a sophomore and finished second overall at the meet of champions.
Â
She later moved to Florida before her junior year and picked up where she left off, capturing a Group 3A state championship in the discus there. Page went on to finish sixth overall the USATF National Junior Outdoor Championships in both the hammer throw and discus. She recently claimed a third state title this spring as her high school career came to a close.
Â
Trey McClary | Middle Distance | Lexington High School | Lexington, South Carolina
ÂÂÂ
Trey McClary was a two-time All-Region honoree in both track and cross country. McClary captained Lexington High School to three consecutive regional championships in cross country. He will compete for the Bulldogs in XC and track next year.
Â
McClary has run a 2:00 split in the 800-meter event and broke 4:30 in the 1-mile run. He looks to crack the top-7 on The Citadel's cross country squad and make an impact in middle distance events during both the 2017 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Â
Tyler Schiemann | Throws | Providence Catholic High School | Beecher, Illinois
Â
Tyler Schiemann left his mark at Providence Catholic High School. Schiemann set all-time freshman school records in both the shot put, reaching 43 feet, and the discus, totaling 141 feet. By his sophomore season, he was an IHSA 3A discus state qualifier and sectional champion in the discus competition. Providence Catholic was the 2013 Class 3A state runner-up in track.
Â
Schiemann would go on to claim individual conference championships in the shotput and discus and help lead his football team to a 7A state championship as a junior. So far this season, he placed sixth overall at the IHSA indoor state meet and recorded a personal record in the shot put with a heave of 55 feet, 11 inches. Schiemann will continue competing in the shot put and discus at The Citadel and learn the hammer throw and weight throw.
Â
Jaylin West | Sprints | Stratford High School | Goose Creek, South Carolina
Â
Jaylin West is a local sprinter coming off an outstanding senior season, helping Stratford place fourth overall at the AAAA South Carolina State Championship Meet. West was on the 4x800-relay squad that captured a state title by clocking a 7:55, which was the top time in South Carolina all season.
Â
West later placed second overall in the 400-meter hurdles. The stellar performance at the 2016 state meet came after he secured Tri-County and Region championships in the event. West also ran on Stratford's 4x400-meter relay team as a junior and helped guide them to a runner-up finish at state.
