Bulldogs Travel for Upstate Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel cross country teams will look to build off a strong home performance last week, traveling to the Upstate Invitational on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The event is scheduled to start with the women's 5K race at 9 a.m. followed by the men's 8K at 9:45 a.m.
The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive performance at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational. Both teams placed second overall on the course at James Island County Park.
Michael Lantz led the men's team in the 8K, placing second individually with a time of 26:51.82. Caillian Colquitt paced the women's team with her best 5K time of the season in 19:27.63, taking fourth place.
The women's team was missing two of its top three runners, but still placed second thanks to breakout performances from freshmen Jordan Neeley and Daniela Sanchez-Martinez. Neeley beat her personal best in the 5K by more than a minute, placing 10th in 20:39.74. Sanchez-Martinez took 14th for The Citadel, also setting a new personal best in 20:51.70.
Ross Jordan helped the men's team secure a second place finish, placing fourth in his third consecutive race in 27:33.01. Jamie Cunningham finished in the top-10, placing eighth in 27:49.37.

At the Upstate Invitational, the Bulldogs will compete against Division I programs such as Appalachian State, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Florida Gulf Coast, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, USC Upstate and Wofford. The meet is the second to last for the Bulldogs before the Southern Conference Championships on Oct. 29.
