CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team hits the road for the final time this season Saturday when it travels to Spartanburg, South Carolina, for a dual against Wofford.
"We've had a good week of practice and are competing well," head coach William Smith said. "I'm excited to take my team to Spartanburg for this weekend's competition as we continue to prepare for our championship season."
The Bulldogs, who have the second-best aggregate score average in the Southern Conference, have been led all season by sophomore Allison Auten and junior Colton Poole. The duo earned ROTC awards at last weekend's NRA Sectional Championship in air rifle and smallbore, respectively. Auten's season-high score of 590 points ranks second on the SoCon's performance list this season in air rifle, and her season average of 577.00 points per match is tied for second in the SoCon. Poole ranks seventh in the conference with an average aggregate score of 1129.27 points per match, and his season-high aggregate score of 1141 points is tied for fifth on the conference's performance list.
The women's team has been paced by sophomore Leah Fenwrick-Wallace, who has a team-high aggregate average of 1075.70 points and also boasts a team-best 558.80 average in air rifle. Freshman Faith Totherow's smallbore average of 531.60 points per match and her single-match high score of 554 points are both tops on the team in that discipline. Junior Carli Cline is tied with Fenwrick-Wallace for the team's single-match aggregate score high with 1094 points she scored in last weekend's sectional.
Competition begins at 8 a.m. Saturday inside the Taylor Center Range on Wofford's campus. Complete results will be available at CitadelSports.com following the match.
