COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Carolina Challenge over the weekend, with several cadet-athletes producing strong showings, including a school record and four personal records.
Graduate transfer distance runner
Colin Martin set the school record in the men's 3,000-meter run with personal record of 8:34.90, finishing sixth overall and fourth among college runners.
Sophomore
Lindsay Pierce finished second in the men's pole vault with a personal-record leap of 14-5.25, a mark that places him fourth all-time in program history.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman
Keefe White ran a personal record of 8.67, which places him seventh in program history, to finish 15
th in the race.
In the women's weight throw,
Kameron Cass set a personal record with a throw of 14.24, the seventh-best throw in program history.
Senior
Josiah Johnson finished seventh in the men's open 60-meter dash qualifier with a time of 6.89 and followed that up with a 15
th-place finish in the 60-meter semis, which combined Olympic development runners with the top-eight collegiate runners.
Senior
Ja'Lon Williams finished third in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.12. Williams also finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.80.
"It was nice to see Colin's hard work pay off in a solid performance," said assistant coach
Kris Kut. "Lindsay stepped up and is vaulting with confidence now. Ja'Lon and Kam are both getting better each week and will be ready by SoCon. Josiah continues to be consistent in the 60-meter dash and when he tapers for SoCon, he will run a very fast time."
