Battle Breaks Records in Battle at Boulder Creek

BOULDER CITY, NEV. - Citadel freshman golfer Mackenzie Battle finished with a final score of 228, tying for eighth in the Battle at Boulder Creek in Nevada on Tuesday. As a team, the Bulldogs placed sixth in a field of seven.
Battle opened up the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 on Monday, finishing up the morning tied for third place. In the final round on Tuesday, the freshman from Aberdeen, North Carolina, posted another score of 75 to finish with a 12-over-par 228 tournament, breaking the program record for the lowest score in a three-round tournament. The previous record was held by Kayla Bowsher and was set in 2004 after recording a 231 in the Southern Conference tournament.
Battle is also the only freshman in school history to ever record a pair of 75's in the same tournament.

"I am really proud of the way that Mackenzie played," said head coach Lori Bonacci. "She is stepping up and playing like she has been competing at the college level for a couple of years. We are still recovering from some health issues as a team so hopefully we will be 100% in the coming weeks."
The Citadel will return to the course on Saturday for the Low Country Intercollegiate tournament on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
