CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel Athletic Department celebrated the induction of their Spring 2020 class to the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society on Sept. 29. The class was announced in the spring, but with the early campus departure due to COVID, the class was not able to be celebrated until this fall. This is the second Citadel class inducted into the National Student-Athlete Honor Society.
 
Chip Taylor, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology, and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative, welcomed the group of inductees and offered brief remarks.  
 
"I am reminded of a quote by Theodore Roosevelt that states, 'To study hard implies character in the student, and to work hard at a sport which entails severe physical exertion and steady training also implies character.'  Your induction into XAE is a testament to the character Roosevelt described, and each of you demonstrate it on a daily basis, both in the classroom and on the fields of competition" said, Taylor.
 
"We are so proud of the accomplishments of all of our student-athletes that we have inducted these last two years," said Senior Associate Athletic Director and SWA Kathy Kroupa. "They are an exemplary example of the academic and athletic excellence that we strive for as a department and institution."
 
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college student-athletes who receive a varsity letter in their sport, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full time semester and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade-point average.
