SUNDAY'S RESULTS
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 22
nd-ranked Citadel mixed rifle team and the 27
th-ranked women's team hosted 12
th-ranked NC State, No. 20 UAB, No. 25 Wofford and members of 24
th-ranked Georgia Southern in an NCAA Qualifying match on Saturday, Feb. 22 and Sunday, Feb. 23.
The Wolfpack took the match with an aggregate score of 4644, while UAB finished second with a score of 4597. The Bulldogs' mixed team finished just behind the Blazers with an aggregate score of 4554. The Terriers finished the weekend with a 4478, while the Bulldog women rounded things out with an aggregate score of 4196.
NC State and UAB competed on Saturday, while the Bulldogs, Terriers and three individuals from Georgia Southern competed on Sunday.
NC State's
Makenzie Sheffield posted the top aggregate score on the weekend with an 1166, including claiming top honors in air rifle with a 592, while teammate
Emily Fisher took top honors in smallbore with a 575.
Senior
Alexander McAlear, one of three seniors competing in their final home match, paced the Bulldogs on Sunday with a second-place aggregate score of 1144. The 1144 is his second-best effort of the season. Wofford's
Daniel Wesson took top honors on Sunday with an 1151.
THREE-POSITION SMALLBORE
- In three-position smallbore, junior Max Brabston led the way with a top score of 572, while freshman Cameron Bates finished third with a 563.
- McAlear finished fourth overall and third on the mixed team with a 562.
- Sophomore Emily Perkins finished sixth with a 559 and Jack Wittman rounded out the scoring in smallbore for the mixed team with a ninth-place 554.
- The women were paced by senior Tierra Price's 523.
- Freshman Taylor Swiger finished second on the women's side with a 510 and fellow freshman Demi Perez posted a 499.
- Senior Victoria Krone ended her final home match with a 485 in the gun.
AIR RIFLE
- In air rifle, McAlear took top honors with a 582, matching his season high in the gun.
- Bates finished fourth overall with a 579, while Brabston fired off a 569 to finish third on the squad and fifth in the discipline.
- Perkins finished seventh with a 568 and Brandon Oerman rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring five with a 549.
- The women were paced in air rifle by Perez's 552.
- Krone was second on the women's squad with a 546, and Swiger finished with a 541.
- Price fired off a 540.
COMING UP
The Bulldogs will next compete in the 2020 Southern Conference Rifle Championships hosted by Georgia Southern. The two-day match will begin with three-position smallbore on Saturday, March 7 and wrap up with air rifle on Sunday, March 8.
