Bulldog Track and Field Collects Six Medals, 17 Personal Records at SoCon Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Va.
 – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams completed their time at the 2020 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with several strong performances on Sunday.

Over the two days, the Bulldogs collected six medals, including an individual championship by junior Sam Blumer in the men's pole vault, and recorded 17 personal records. For the sixth week in a row, at least one program record was set. The Citadel also had 12 finals appearances and seven total performances that rank in the top 10 in program history.

The Women's Side Rundown
  • Sunday's action began with senior jumper Kaeleigh Guth setting the program record in the women's triple jump. Guth's leap of 37' 5.25" is a personal record for the Washington, New Jersey native and placed her eighth in the competition.
  • Sophomore Mya Dollard finished third in the women's high jump, earning All-SoCon honors with a personal-record jump of 5' 3". The leap is the second-highest in program history.
  • Senior Jessy Page finished seventh in the women's weight toss with a distance of 53' 7.5", marking her season best in the event.

The Men's Side Rundown
  • On the men's side, the Bulldogs finished 1-2 in the men's pole vault with Blumer taking home the gold medal, as well as All-SoCon honors, with a jump of 15' 9". Fellow junior Devin Merrick finished runner up to also earn All-SoCon and silver-medal honors with the same mark.
  • Senior Prince Howard-Whitaker made it two silver medals in two days on Sunday as he finished second in the 35-pound weight throw with a personal record of 54' 7.5". The All-SoCon throw is the fourth-best mark in program history all time.
  • In the 60-meter high hurdles, Keefe White finished eighth with a time of 8.53.
  • Freshman Sam LaRosa finished eighth in the men's pole vault with a personal-record height of 14' 3.25". The mark is the sixth-best in program history.

COMING UP
The team will now be off for a week from outside competition before traveling to Conway, South Carolina to open the outdoor season by taking part in the Spring Break Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina, Friday, March 13 – Saturday, March 14.
