CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel track and field head coach Jody Huddleston announced Friday the addition of graduate transfer Milan Williams for the 2021 season.
"We are so excited to welcome Milan to our track and field family. She is a very special athlete that brings experience, knowledge and talent in the throwing events," Huddleston said. "She has the potential to make a major impact for our program in the hammer, discus and shot put. We expect her to be very competitive at the conference level, and she should etch her name in our record books. We are so excited to get the chance to work with such a talented and hard-working individual."
A thrower from Suwanee, Georgia, Williams joins former teammate JP Caglione in coming over to The Citadel after an impressive career at Charleston Southern. Williams holds the CSU record in the women's weight throw, posting a mark of 18.36 meters at the 2019 Team Challenge.
Williams is also second in CSU history for the outdoor hammer throw with a mark of 56.31m, third in the outdoor discus with a toss of 44.41m and fourth in outdoor shot put with a mark of 13.50m.
During the 2020 indoor season, Williams was the Big South champion in the weight throw with a mark of 18.27m. She also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 12.95m at the Carolina Challenge.
Williams recorded 31 podium finishes during her time with the Buccaneers, including claiming top honors eight times.
Prior to her prolific career at CSU, Williams was a two-time region 7-6A champion in the discus at Peachtree Ridge High School. She was the runner-up in the district in shot put in 2016, and placed eighth in the shot put at the state championship meet. She was awarded the Best Female Field Athlete at Peachtree Ridge each of her final two seasons.
