Bulldogs Post Strong Performances at App State Quad

BOONE, N.C. – Michael McAleavey and Selwyn Porter each picked up three victories to lead The Citadel at the App State Individual Quad match Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Gym in Boone, North Carolina.
 
How it Happened
  • Selwyn Porter picked up victories in all three of his matches. He opened his day with a second-period fall over Patrick Evans (Virginia).
  • Porter's second match resulted in a 17-2 technical fall over Jack Campbell (App State). Porter closed out the event with a 9-6 decision over Tristan Pugh (App State).
  • Michael McAleavey finished the event with a 3-1 record. His only defeat came to No. 20 Quinn Miller (Virginia), 4-0.
  • McAleavey posted one of the quickest matches of the event as he needed only 26 seconds to secure the fall over Jacob Barlow (App State).
  • Jordie White recorded a pair of victories on the day. He opened his day with a third-period fall over Ben Kamall (Virginia) and followed it up with a takedown in overtime for a 5-3 win over Sam Book (Virginia).
  • Dazjon Casto picked up two victories in four very competitive matches. Casto opened the event by suffering a 6-5 defeat on riding time to Jake Keating (Virginia). Casto came back to win by a second-period disqualification in this second match.
  • In one of the best matches of the day, Casto went to overtime with William Formatto (App State). The two battled for the majority of the extra period before Formatto secured a takedown with six seconds left for a 3-1 victory.
  • Casto came back to close out his day with a pin in 64 seconds over Brett Mordecal (App State).
  • Jake Rotunda picked up victories in his final two matches to finish the day 2-1. Rotunda defeated Ethan Oakley (App State), 11-8, before closing out his day with a 9-6 decision over Kobe Early (App State).
  • Kyle Kretzer rebounded from an overtime loss in his first match to defeat Barrett Blakely (App State), 7-3.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs return to the mat Jan. 17 when they open Southern Conference action with dual matches against Chattanooga and Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. The Bulldogs will face the Mocs at 1 p.m., before coming back to face GWU at 5 p.m.
