Ikeda Leads Bulldogs on First Day of Buccaneer Invitational

KIAWAH, ISLAND, S.C. – The Citadel's Megan Ikeda shot rounds of 75 and 76 to lead the Bulldogs on the opening day of the Buccaneer Invitational at Kiawah Island's Oak Point Golf Club.

How it Happened

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a round of 325 and followed it up in the afternoon with a round of 333.
Megan Ikeda shot the best of the day in the opening round as she finished with a three-over par 75. She shot par on all nine holes on the front nine.
Ikeda came back in the afternoon and shot a four-over-par 76. She started on the 15^th hole and made the turn at one-over par.
After suffering a double bogey on No. 1, she rebounded by going birdie, par, birdie, par over the next four holes. She would add another birdie on the par-5 eighth to shoot one-over par on the front nine.
She added her fourth birdie of the round on the par-5 12^th.
Sarah Smith recorded three birdies on her way to opening-round 79. All three birdies came on the front nine.
Paige Gilstrap got off to a slow start, but rebounded to record five-straight par's on the front nine to shoot an opening round 80.
She came back in the afternoon to shoot one-over par on the back nine on her way to a round of 79.
Freshman Lauren Sommerfeld was improve to improve by three strokes in her afternoon round.
