Volleyball Drops Match at Chattanooga

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team dropped their first match of the weekend, falling to Chattanooga in four (21-25, 25-18, 15-25, 14-25) Friday evening in Tennessee.

Records: The Citadel (9-9, 5-7), Chattanooga (8-17, 4-8)
Location: Maclellan Gymnasium (Chattanooga, Tennessee)
Series: Chattanooga leads 30-6.
 
How it Happened
  • Chattanooga opened the first set with an 8-2 lead, interrupted by kills from Ali Ruffin and Sharlissa de Jesus.
  • A combination of Bulldog errors and Chattanooga kills allowed the Mocs to pull ahead to 18-9.
  • A 5-2 run put The Citadel within three points of Chattanooga, but two Moc kills ended the set at 25-21.
  • The second set opened with a kill from Maddy Cardenas, but Chattonooga responded with a streak of kills and a service ace.
  • The Citadel fought their way back and the set was tied up at 11.
  • From there, a kill from de Jesus gave the Bulldogs the momentum they needed to take off on a 9-3 run.
  • Additional kills from Belle Hogan, de Jesus and Cardenas put the Bulldogs in a position to end the set at 25-18.
  • Chattanooga responded in the third, quickly taking the lead. 
  • The Citadel continued pushing, but ultimately was not able to catch up and the Mocs took the set.  
  • The beginning of the final set saw the Mocs come out strong and take an early lead again. 
  • Maya Elassal and Amie Greene entered the match to contribute to the attack, but were not able to close the gap, allowing the set to finish at 25-14.
