Bulldogs Fall to ETSU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team dropped its first home Southern Conference match of the season, falling 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-27, 21-25) Sunday afternoon inside McAlister Field House.

How it Happened
  • The opening set was tight throughout as the team's exchanged the first 26 points of the match.
  • Back-to-back errors from ETSU allowed The Citadel to take a two point lead.
  • The Bucs battled back to tie the set, and then ran off four-straight points to win the opening set.
  • The second set saw the Bulldogs come out strong, opening an 11-6 advantage and forcing a timeout.
  • ETSU responded out of the timeout and forced a Bulldog timeout after taking a 19-17 advantage.
  • The Citadel trailed by two points late, but three attack errors from the Bucs, coupled with a kill from Sharlissa de Jesus set up set point. de Jesus ended the set on her own with a service ace to complete the 5-0 run.
  • Both teams had their moments in the early half of the third set with a Makaya Middleton kill bringing The Citadel within one point.
  • ETSU opened a five-point advantage, only to see The Citadel score the next four point.
  • The back-and-forth continued for the remainder of the set as both teams fought off set points. ETSU would end up scoring the final three points to take the set.
  • The Citadel came out strong in the fourth set and jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead.
  • The Bulldogs would hold the lead until late in the set when ETSU went on an 8-2 run for the four-point advantage, and then the match.
