Volleyball Wins in Four

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball defeated Western Carolina in four (25-18, 23-25, 25-12, 25-19) Friday evening in McAlister Field House.

How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs opened the first set strong with a four-point lead. 
  • Western Carolina fought their way back and met at 4-4.
  • The teams exchanged points and were still tied at 12. From there, The Citadel went on 9-2 run taking the lead. 
  • A Catamount error and a kill from Sharlissa de Jesus ended the first at 25-18.
  • The second set saw a similar start and the teams were once again tied at 11.
  • A five-point run from WCU allowed a solid lead, but it was interrupted by kills from Maddy Cardenas and Makaya Middleton.
  • The Bulldogs ultimately could not return the lead, and the set ended at 25-23.
  • In the third, the teams continued to evenly trade points, but a service ace from Ali Ruffin and a kill from de Jesus sparked The Citadel's momentum. 
  • The Bulldogs went on a 9-2 run and two Catamount errors ended the set at 25-12. 
  • The final set saw the Bulldogs take an early lead, and multiple kills from de Jesus put the set at 11-6. 
  • WCU fought their way back within two points, but kills from Ruffin, Gina Delancey, and Cardenas pulled The Citadel to 21-15.
  • Another kill and a service ace from Cardenas ended the fourth at 25-19.

  • The Bulldogs matched their season high of team service aces at 11.
  • Ali Ruffin led the Bulldogs with 13 kills, 10 digs and three block assists.
  • Sharlissa de Jesus followed with 11 kills and 12 digs and three service aces.

  • Kenzie Kellerman added 19 digs.
