LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Citadel outside hitter
Sharlissa de Jesus was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) East Coast All-Region Honorable Mention team, it was announced by the organization on Tuesday.
She becomes the first player in program history to earn all-region recognition from the AVCA.
de Jesus was recognized after putting together a season in which she recorded 434 kills, 322 digs, 37 service aces and 34 total blocks. She recorded double-digit kills in 24 matches and posted 17 double-doubles.
Her numbers were even more impressive in the Southern Conference tournament as she totaled 74 kills and 42 digs in three matches to be named the tournament MVP. In the semifinal victory over Samford, de Jesus recorded a career-high 30 kills, becoming just the second player in program history to reach 30 kills in a match.
She is the first player in SoCon history to be a five-time all-conference selection. After being named to the All-Freshman Team in 2017, de Jesus was twice named to the All-SoCon Second Team and twice named to the First Team.
de Jesus closed out her career as The Citadel's all-time leader with 1,843 kills. She is also tied for second with 182 service aces and third with 1,439 digs.
