LEXINGTON, Va. – The Citadel's
Sam Blumer and
Devin Merrick earned all-Southern Conference honors in the pole vault on the first day of the 2021 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI on Saturday, two of the Bulldogs' seven top-10 finishes on Day 1 of the event.
Both Blumer and Merrick vaulted 15-5 (4.70m), but Blumer took second and Merrick third after Blumer cleared 15-5 on his first attempt.
Men's Results
- Sam LaRosa joined Blumer and Merrick in the top five of the pole vault, tying for fifth with a personal-best mark of 14-5.25 (4.40m), the seventh-best mark in program history. Lindsay Pierce also hit 14-5.25, but took seventh place after needing three attempts to clear 4.25m.
- Prince Howard-Whitaker placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 46-10.75 (14.29m).
- The distance medley relay squad of Will Ray, Jeremy Shipley, Bryce Baglia and Ty Duben logged a time of 10:35.60 to place seventh overall.
- Kane Duncan qualified for Sunday's 400m finals with a time of 49.52.
- In the 60m dash, Timiebi Ogobri turned in a personal-best time of 6.92 to qualify for Sunday's finals. Ogobri's time was the fourth-best in program history.
- Overall, the men's team racked up 24.5 points on Saturday and sits in fourth place entering Sunday's action.
Women's Results
- Tamia Burch notched a personal-best mark in the 60m dash, running 7.87 tally the third-best time in school history.
- Mecca Jackson competed in both the 200m and 400m, picking up personal bests in both. In the 200m, Jackson had the fourth-best time in The Citadel's history with a mark of 26.02, and in the 400m, she ran 59.91, the fifth-best of any Bulldog.
- Also in the 400m, Jay Mitchell ran a personal-best 1:01.56, the 10th-best time in school history.
- In the 800m, Gabby Shea turned in a time of 2:26.04, the No. 8 spot in The Citadel's history.
- The distance medley relay team of Casey Miller, Leah Murray, Shea and Heidi Fortin took sixth place and posted the fourth-best time in school history in 12:47.04.
- The women's team is in eighth after Day 1 with three points.
