LEXINGTON, Va. – The Citadel enjoyed a strong final day of the 2021 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI on Sunday afternoon as six cadet-athletes, two individuals and one relay team, earned all-conference honors.
Prince Howard-Whitaker's toss of 54-6 (16.61m) in the weight throw gave him a third-place finish, the fourth-best mark in program history and all-SoCon honors, while
Timiebi Ogobri ran a 6.95 in the 60m dash, also finishing third to capture all-conference honors.
The men's 4x400m quartet of
Kane Duncan,
Treonte Newton,
Jeremy Shipley and
Tyler Manon captured all-conference honors in the final event of the meet, running 3:20.04 to place third overall with the 10th-best time in The Citadel's history.
Men's Results
- In addition to the all-conference performers, Duncan competed individually in the 400m, taking seventh with a time of 50.08.
- Reggie Reynolds, competing alongside Howard-Whitaker in the weight throw, logged a personal-best throw of 48-5.25 (14.76m) to place eighth overall.
- As a team, the men placed seventh in the overall team standings with 45.5 points.
Women's Results
- Like on the men's side, the women's 4x400m team of Joie Royer, Mecca Jackson, Leah Murray and Jay Mitchell also enjoyed a strong performance, taking sixth place with the seventh-best time in school history after a run of 4:02.60.
- Individually, the women had two standout performances in the pole vault, led by Samantha Engel's school-record vault of 10-11.75 (3.35m).
- Emily Hickey also enjoyed a personal-best mark in the pole vault of 10-6 (3.20m), the third-best performance in school history.
- In the 5,000m, Heidi Fortin logged the second-best time ever by a runner from The Citadel and established a new personal-best with a time of 18:23.09.
- The women's team placed eighth in the overall standings with six points for the meet.
