CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (23-25, 26-28, 25-23) decision to Furman in the first of two matches Sunday afternoon inside McAlister Field House.

How it Happened
- The first set was tight throughout as neither team was able to open up more than a two point advantage the entire set.
- Sharlissa de Jesus was the catalyst of the Bulldog offense in the opening set as she registered five kills on six swings.
- The Bulldogs got a kill from Mellanie King to tie the set 23-23, but back-to-back errors from The Citadel gave the set to the Paladins.
- The teams exchanged points to start the second set before de Jesus delivered a kill to give the Bulldogs the early 5-3 advantage.
- That would be the last time the set would be separated by more than one point until the Paladins took a 16-14 lead.
- With the set tied 22-22, the Bulldogs scored two-straight points to set up set point.
- Furman fought back to tie the set and then eventually pull ahead on a kill from Courtney Murphy and a Bulldog error to take the set.
- The Paladins used the momentum from the second-set victory to push ahead to a 13-10 lead in the third set.
- A kill from Makaya Middleton and a pair of errors from the Paladins tied the set 13-13.
- Furman would then go on a 10-3 run to open a 23-16 advantage.
- The Bulldogs would battle back as a pair of kills from de Jesus, and two errors from Furman brought the Bulldogs within 23-20.
- After Furman scored to set up match point, The Citadel used kills from de Jesus and King to pull within 24-23.
- Furman was able to get a kill on the next point to clinch the victory.
